A globetrotter giraffe! A beautiful, 2 years old, giraffe arrived at Parc Safari on September 18th. She traveled more than 5000 kilometers, from the Vancouver Zoo, to join our family! The little female is about 11 feet high and weights 1000 kilos.
Hand fed, she is used to human contacts, but she seemed a bit shy upon her arrival. She didn't want to get out of her traveling quarters and it took a few tricks and tries from the zoologists to convince her to move towards her enclosure. Once there, she met her new neighbors, Molson the male giraffe, Carole the elephant and Crusher the ever-so-cool rhino.
Integration with our visitors will be progressive. For now she is with Agathe, a giraffe that quickly became her new best friend. They will be staying in an enclosure close to our new Terrasse Afrika. You will be able to see her from up close while she settles down in her new home.
We received over 300 name suggestions for her, Victoria was the winner.
A city in South Africa and British Colombia, the name Victoria honors her ancestors, both recent and remote.
The name was suggested by Dominique Montplaisir, of Sainte-Adèle. Congratulation!
A "small" dromedary! Daphidel, our dromedary, gave birth on September 8th. Only a few days old, the baby already weights 50 pounds! Parc Safari's veterinarian examined him and made sure he was in good health. Mom and baby are in perfect shape!
We received many suggestions for his name, Issa, suggested by Marine Savoie, was chosen. Come say hello to him next summer, starting May 18, 2012!
Baby Bison On September 12th a new little bison joined our herd, the 5th one this season! Our group now counts 21 bisons.
Travelers from South Africa On May 15th, two adorable fennec foxes, a male and a female, joined us at Parc Safari. Only a few months old, they traveled from Edenvale, South Africa, to establish permanent residence with us. You can admire them at our new Farm of the Five Continents.
